Building an Emotional Regulation Toolkit

Recommend course:

Description

This workshop takes a deeper dive into the critical skills that assist a young child to self-regulate, and the crucial role educators play in the development of those skills and can help shape the child’s understanding of regulation.

We will:

  • examine opportunities across the day to teach and support the 3 main components of emotional regulation - emotional literacy, interoception (the association between bodily sensation and feelings/emotions) and safe emotional expression and regulation.
  • reflect on our understanding of co-regulation, our own practice and how the educator’s role as a co-regulator can look different, depending on the needs of the child.

This workshop aligns with the National Quality Standard:

  • Quality Area 1: Educational program and practice.
  • Quality Area 2: Children’s health and safety.
