NESA Endorsed - Lights Camera Action

NESA Endorsed - Lights Camera Action

This is a two part workshop - 29th August 2019 and 12th September  2019

Educators are now using video as well as digital photography as a way of documenting learning and making visible the learning that is occurring in an early childhood environment. This practical 2-part workshop will help to de-mystify media and take story-telling to a new level. The focus of the sessions will be on creating rather than consuming media and exploring how video can be used as a tool for inquiry based learning. Participants will explore:

  • Green Screen video making - understand this technique, the tools used to create videos using a green screen, how it affords educators the opportunity to enhance video making. We will also discuss how to use it to promote further learning will be explored in this workshop.
  • Stop motion animation - this technique will be explored as a way of allowing children  to create  their own animations. Using modelling materials participants will explore and create their own stories and animations and learn how to develop them from initial ideas, to creating characters and designing and recording a story.

Workshop participants will have the opportunity to use the resources within their centres, or be given ideas for creating opportunities for green screening at a centre level.

During the second workshop we will investigate how participants have used their new film-making skills to revisit learning and 'make it better'.

This workshop is suitable for early childhood professionals working  with children 3-5 years.
