Managing child wellbeing concerns and providing a child safe environment - KU Staff Only

Description

The training covers how KU educators respond to child wellbeing or child protection concerns, support vulnerable families and provide a child safe environment. It includes:
• Current trends in child protection policy and practice ( i.e mandatory reporting requirements, identifying and responding to abuse and neglect concerns)
• The role of educators in engaging and supporting vulnerable children and their families who may be at risk of harm
• Elements of a ‘child safe’ organisation – the 10 Child Safe Standards / duty of care /professional practice /interactions with children/professional boundaries/ safeguards for educators
• KU’s process for reporting and investigating complaints and concerns about educator interactions with children – types of complaints / the Reportable Conduct Scheme / notification obligations
It is a regulatory requirement for all staff in services who have contact with children to be aware of current child protection laws and obligations. The NSW ECED have clarified this to mean all staff must have evidence they have completed this "refresher" course in the previous 24 months.
